Introduction.
I reviewed this first recording by Roel Dieltiens using CD quality streaming. It is fairly brief as much of the background info regarding the cellist is available in my review of the cellist’s second recording.

Dieltiens would have been in his mid thirties when he made this recording. It has all the trappings of a work created by a young enthusiastic player keen to make his mark. The playing is assertive, with moderate emphasis of key notes. The pace in some movements is fast particularly the third Prelude which sounds a bit rushed. The style of performance is certainly Baroque with clear articulation, rhythmic playing and gentle rise and fall in the phrasing. I feel it could be summarised as business like in comparison with the second recording which gets much deeper into my senses than this first. The fifth Prelude exemplifies these points well.
Conclusion.
This is a very good Baroque recording and will please many. The only problem is that in my view the second recording is much better! This cellist definitely improved with age!
